A while back, while talking to Papa Joel, we came up with an idea about New Years. What do we, as parents, hope for our preemies in 2014? What are some milestones we look forward to? Well, I had the opportunity to speak with a few preemie parents this week. This is what they said.
“This year, I would like to see Hope sitting up, maybe standing/walking. I want to hear her say "Mama" and I can't wait to see what she thinks about real food! Her name is Hope. Birthdate May 16th, 7.5 months, 4.5 months adjusted.” -Heather Hunter
(Note: Hope spent 99 days in the NICU)
“Matthew Hedrick: adjusted age: 35 weeks; 11/27/13(actual) 2/2/14(adjusted) short term we hope he can drink out of a bottle/breast and comes home. Long term: hope he is walking by the end of '14. and great check-ups throughout the year” -Chris Hedrick
(Note: Baby Matthew is still currently in the NICU in Raleigh, NC)
Ava and Sophia Doty
“Ava and Sophia 7/24/2012 adjusted age is 14 months. This year I look forward to them just growing and hitting there milestones as any other child would. Potty Trained is a huge one for us. Twins in diapers is costly and these little ones are little Houdini's as soon as the diaper comes off. One minute you are trying to put a diaper on the next you are alone in the bedroom with a naked baby running around the house. My resolution is really just to remain calm in the face of any challenge they may face. They are strong and will continue to press forward.” -Tom Doty
“ It is our wish that 2014 will prove to be one of the best years of our life. Addie will hopefully start walking, crawling, and talking this year. Hearing her laughter fill the house now, is simply a miracle. Adeline was born May 1st, 2013 at 34 weeks gestation and 3lbs 12oz. She was in the NICU for 26 days. “
Keep pressing toward those milestones little ones. From all of us here at Papas, Happy New Year!
